Empire State Building made of Legos

Lego Empire State Building
My wonderful friend Jenna surprised me with this awesome present today! I had a grand time putting it together and love having it on my desk to look at. Here are some facts about the Empire State Building:
1. It opened in 1931 and was the tallest building in the world until 1972 when the World Trade Center opened.
2. The building is a member of the "World Federation of Great Towers" and has been named one of the 7 wonders of the modern world.
3. On the foggy morning in July 1945 a US Airforce B-25 bomber crashed into the Empire State Building's 78th and 79th floors.

Residential Areas of Detroit

Interesting brick work

Failed attempt to get a picture of "You Got Beef With Me?" on our way back.
It was such a warm February day and our studio class ventured out into Detroit to find some textures to base our next project off of. Here are a few of the pictures I ended up with.

Smith Group Firm Tour

Guardian Building

Materials Library

Here are some pictures from the 17th floor of the Guardian Building, the offices of Smith Group Architectural Firm. A few UDM Archies visited for a firm tour with the Director of Architecture, Mr Guitar. It was really neat to see the different dynamics of an Architectural Firm and all the projects that Smith Group is and has recently worked on. The location is in the heart of downtown and these great views are visible throughout the entire firm.

Valentine's Day

Just one of my favorite pictures of my Matt.
I've never been into the Valentine Holiday, but I'm a fan of this guy! So why not take a moment to acknowledge how much I appreciate everything he does and how proud I am to call him mine. I love you Matt :)

Harmonie Park

My Model for the Park

View looking toward Harmonie Park
For studio our class had to collaborate with second years and create a park within their retail shops. Our group had an overriding theme of water so I put in a pool that would collect the rain water (white area). My park relates to my previous paintings and Bas Relief project that were based off the Gee's Bend Quilt made by Loretta P. Bennett. Along the one side of my park is a glass blowing shop and created the pathway against the building so that pedestrians could interact with the glass blowers throught the windows.

Girls Night

Jordan, Sarah, Audrey, Me, and Erin
"Hot Damn"
Being silly :P

Last night my dear friends Jordan, Sarah, Audrey and Erin came to visit me at school. We had some much needed girl talk and enjoyed Noodles and Coldstone in Down Town Royal Oak. My favorite thing about these lovely ladies is that no matter how much time has pasted, every time we get together it's like we had never left each others sides. I love them and it makes me happy to know that we get to be FRIENDS FOREVER. :D

Beaux Arts Ball

The Lovely Jenna and I

My handsome date.
The night that I have been helping plan for the past several weeks is finally here: The Beaux Arts Ball! Put on by the University of Detroit Mercy and Lawrence Technological University for all AIAS chapters in Michigan (and then some), facility and professionals. The theme for the night was Blanc et Noir, or Black and White, and the night was full of delicious food and dancing to old music. To my surprise, Evan and I were recognized for our contribution to the Ball by our AIAS president. As I take on the position of Social Events Co-Chair for University of Detroit's AIAS chapter I am excited to start planning our next Ball!

My Birthday!

The most important day of the year has arrived: my birthday. I had a great 19th birthday with the best part being a visit from Matt and my surprise birthday donut from my mom! Happy, happy, happy!
