Bake with Jake!

Jake with his steak
Me with the potatoes
My Mom helping with the twice baked potatoes

Jake and I decided that we wanted to make dinner tonight for our family so we went to the store and and bought all the ingredients. He maned the steak and I worked on the twice baked potatoes and asparagus. Dinner turned out to be a success with only limited help from our Mom!

Cake balls

Crumbling the cake
Finished cake balls!
I have heard that this cake ball recipe is really simple and easy to make although I am not so sure I could agree. In theory, making cake, mixing it with icing, and dipping it in chocolate sounds simple, but I found that it can create a huge disaster! In addition, the recipe that I followed forgot an important step that luckily Mrs. Baker (my Mom's friend) helped me realize: the cake balls have to be frozen before attempting to dip them in chocolate. Despite the amount things that did not go the way I planned them, the cake balls turned out delicious!

Riding bikes to Birmingham

Elliot at Quarton Lake
Me and my bike
Elliot with his first gelato!
I spent my morning with my dear friend Elliot going on an adventure and being spontaneous! That's what I love about hanging out with El, I never know what we'll end up doing but I can always count on having a great time. We had a plan of biking to Birmingham to Quarton Lake to have a picnic (pb&j, banana, graham crackers, and sweaty cheese sticks). On our way there this punk squirrel ran in front of my bike and then jumped on to Elliot's leg and got caught in his bike for a couple seconds. I was laughing uncontrollably, although Elliot didn't find anything funny. Eventually we passed my grandparents house and decided to stop by for some water and to say hi. My brother Jake was there working outside and we enjoyed talking to my grandpa and eating cantaloupe. Continuing our journey we went down a steep hill (wee!) and running around the park once and finally arrived at the lake. I can officially mark off 'ride my bike to Birmingham' off the list. We ate lunch in the shade and saw some really interesting birds. We biked along the lake and saw two of our co-workers, Nicole and Stephen. We fed some fish the remains of our graham crackers and saw a huge fish. We set off for home and stopped at an open house where a lady adopted us and pretended like we were her kids so that we could go look around. The bathrooms were super cool and Elliot left his number on the girls night stand. Then we went to a chocolate shop and ordered some gelato that was blueberry flavored and headed home. Immediately when we were back at my house we jumped into my pool fully clothed (another thing I can check off the list!).

Raspberry Crepes

The Birthday Boy stirring the raspberry sauce
Raspberry Crepes!
For Matt's birthday he decided that he wanted to go to the grocery store and find something to make. Note to self: find recipe and ingredients before heading to the store next time. Just when we almost gave up on finding something to make we saw some pre-made crepes. Matt is completely content with "eating breakfast for all three meals in a day" so we decided to find some fruit that we can add to the crepe and whipped creme. We headed back to Matt's house and Matt found a recipe for raspberry crepe sauce online. We enjoyed making lunch together and it was so exciting to eat something that we made! The crepes were delicious! We decided that this is something that we definitely want to make again, but next time we're going to make the actual crepe part and possibly the whipped creme.

Clean room!!

My bed and dresser
Desk
Closet, take notice of blue line
I'm well aware that my "Moving out" blog was quite a while ago, but my room is finally organized and cleaned since moving home from college! Not only did I clean my room, I also had to organize all my high school, swim, art, college and miscellaneous things into boxes to put in the attic, as well and going through my stuff and getting rid of a lot of it, so I will attribute the extended time spent on cleaning my room toward that. The blue line that is pictured in the bottom picture is there for a very important reason: to divide the room in half to keep me and my sister civil. That's right, I have the pleasure of sharing my room. So far, it has actually worked really well, we don't fight as much as we used to and sharing our room isn't so bad now, for this reason I am thankful for the blue division. :) I love just sitting in my clean room with the windows open and the fresh smell of summer in the air!

Star Fruit

"It looks like I have a beak"

So cute!

My Mom and I went grocery shopping together today at Westborn Market and were attracted to and interested in trying exotic star fruit! Not actually, I had to convince to her buy it because I was so curious as to what it tasted like. When we got home we researched how to prepare a star fruit and then had our first taste! I thought it was decent enough to finish eating, but my Mom decided that she would just rather stick to normal fruit.
